Under the aegis of the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India, the department of Pharmacology and Physiology organised continuing medical education (CME) programme on migraine at Dumra Auditorium in DMCH on Sunday. The CME was inaugurated by former principal of the college Dr S B Khurana.

Dr Sandeep Kaushal said the purpose of organising the event was to spread awareness among medical professionals regarding early diagnosis and improved care of patients with migraine. During the CME, it was highlighted that migraine was the most common cause of recurrent headaches.

According to International Headache Society, migraine constitutes about one-fifth of the primary headaches. The World Health Organisation has ranked it among the world’s most disabling medical illness. 

The speakers during the CME included Dr Nilima Shanker (Professor of Physiology from UCMS, New Delhi) who spoke on “Pathophysiology of Migraine” followed by comprehensive lecture on Classification and Clinical Presentation of Migraine by Dr Gagandeep Singh (Professor of Neurology, DMCH). Dr Sandeep Kaushal elaborated on the Lifestyle modifications and drugs used in migraine. It was stressed that migraine still remains an underdiagnosed and undertreated disease and it has become very relevant for the health professionals to be aware of pathophysiology, clinical presentation and management of migraine. The post-lunch session include lecture on Migraine prophylaxis and management by Dr Vivek Lal (Additional Professor of Neurology, PGIMER, Chandigarh). The CME concluded with the panel discussion.
